Jessica Burton

Reading Recovery & Garden to Table

Kia ora! My name is Jess. Originally from England, my family bounced around Australia and the USA before arriving in New Zealand in 2008. We loved it so much that we quickly decided to never leave, and I finished high school and university here in Auckland. I’ve been a teacher since 2014, and I’ve been working with the Mangere East whanau since 2018. I”m currently working as a Reading Recovery teacher and as the Kitchen specialist in our Garden to Table programme. I’m passionate about literacy and about establishing positive and vibrant relationships with my students. I currently live in Onehunga with my husband and two cats. I love exploring New Zealand and travelling overseas whenever possible!

Karen Bouwer

Learning Support Teacher

Kia ora, my name is Karen and I am originally from South Africa and moved to this beautiful country earlier this year and loving every bit of this stunning place we get to call home now. I am married to the love of my life and we have a fun-loving, bubbly child who enjoys every part of this new adventure with us. After graduating I was very fortunate to travel to the UK, America and later Canada. Traveling is such a big part of both my husband and my life. We love embracing the different cultures and learning so much from others. We try and explore and travel as much as we can.
I have been working within many diverse learning fields working with children with various needs since 2013. I have been fortunate enough to have worked as a classroom teacher, learning support teacher and a play therapist. I prefer working as a learning support teacher as I truly have a passion for helping children in need and helping them thrive both academically and emotionally.
